From the Beginning

Here
as I take a long bath
between Zbigniew Herbert's former room
his antiquity and his modernism
and the house of the woman
who decades ago
in another continent
another time
introduced a young student to him
and made her pick up the poetry
she had left behind
in her mother's shelves
in the house of her childhood
in another continent
another time
between the little big dreams
of her daughter
and the purifying cold air
of this small town
Here
on this baltic shore
the baltë of my home
somehow here with me
where my hair grows by the minute
where I get to know my sister
from the beginning
and my mother
takes up the size of an entire continent
only to be near me
Here
in the most unlikely of places
the fated place
in the brightest daylight there is
I understand
the word
renaissance.
